Theme-"Youth for Positive Change"

We all know our kids have giant hearts and want to make a difference in the world. This year's MediaFest REACH Movie theme of "Youth for Positive Change" encompasses a wide range of topics that span from school ground issues to global concerns. The objective for student participation is the involvement of research for story purposes, allowing students to uncover local, state, national, or international issues that effect the citizens of our world. Through their research, students will process the learned information and produce a 2 minute iMovie that communicates social change and citizen awareness.

Thank you for your enthusiastic responses to REACH. Students want to be seen and heard, and this is one popular educational vehicle that motivates kids in the learning process while making a difference to those around them. Continue to forge ahead turning standard-based lessons into engaging, relevant learning opportunities.

The more time goes by the more we approach a world described by Richard Brautigan in his poem,"All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace".

I know that my students will just take this new opportunity and run with it. They are just sponges when it comes to computers and ultimately learn more about a program than I had ever imagined. I can't wait to see their final products.

Sounds interesting. This idea certainly does encompass many of the 21st century skills everyone needs to learn and apply in their daily lives. Collaborating and taking on complex problems(critical thinking) are critical skills for our students. This project will give students an opportunity to use these skills in a motivating way. Also, I am pleased that the focus for this project is on developing citizenship by taking on civic and global issues, another necessary 21st century skill. What a terrific opportunity to relay the message to our students that they can and do make a difference.

Helpful information for STRs- Before you try to do your KOA, make sure teachers have their External Passwords. They should use it to sign into their PVLearners account prior to the KOA. I tried to hold our KOA yesterday and approximately 10 teachers did not even have PVLearner accounts yet...

I am presenting a "Pitch" in all of the 3 - 6 classrooms. The kids who are not in GenYes are mighty shy. Any ideas for coaxing them out? At least ones that do not cost $ LOL
